Sedation Dentistry
Fear of the dentist is one of the most common reasons why people avoid getting the dental care that is appropriate for them. As a result, early dental problems sometimes do not get attended to and may progress into bigger problems. With gum disease progression sometimes these problems go unnoticed for many years until only surgery can save their teeth. Sedation dentistry is done so that a patients anxiety does not need to keep them from getting the treatment that they need. Rather through the use of different medications sedation will allow a patient to have treatment completely comfortably while they relax via the use of one of the following methods for sedation.
Oral Conscious Sedation is a higher level of sedation that is completed in patients wanting an inexpensive way to have sedation visits completed. Oral Conscious sedation is achieved by using medicines dispensed by the doctor that will help to create a twilight level of sedation. Many patients will nap through these procedures and oftentimes have little to no memory of their procedure.
IV Sedation is an option that patients can choose, in which case our colleague Dr. Andrea Fonner comes in to provide monitored IV Sedation. Dr. Fonner is a Board Certified Dental Anesthesiologist and Dentist whose practice is limited to the administration of Anesthesia for Dental Procedures.
