Meet Dr. Julianna Shamoon
Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology
Julianna P. Shamoon DMD was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. Her parents moved to the United States nearly 50 years ago, and their dedication to achieving the American Dream allowed Dr. Shamoon to realize her own aspirations—finding a career that allows for professional and academic excellence, challenges the status quo through research and technology, and, most importantly, remains steadfast in its commitment to helping others.
Dr. Shamoon decided to pursue a career with Puget Sound Periodontics after attending a conference led by Dr. Kevin Suzuki. His message of patient-centered therapies that improved periodontal success and comfort resonated with Dr. Shamoon. Her resolve to pursue a career with PSP was further reinforced when she met Dr. Thomas Kang, whose energetic and personable nature, combined with impeccable surgical expertise, solidified her decision.
For the past 10 years, Dr. Shamoon has been committed to serving our veterans. After graduating from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, she completed a postgraduate two-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Hospital. She continued serving our veterans when she completed advanced specialty training in Periodontics and Dental Implant Surgery at the Clement J. Zablocki Veterans Affairs Hospital. Dr. Shamoon has held a position as an Associate Program Director (General Practice Residency) and Periodontist since April 2020 at the Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Hospital. Dr. Shamoon is Board Certified in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery. She is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology and the Academy of Osseointegration.
Dr. Shamoon comes to Puget Sound Periodontics as an experienced private practice clinician, having served the Downtown Chicago community since 2019. She is dedicated to providing an excellent patient experience and is known for her caring demeanor, excellent chairside manner, and advanced surgical proficiency. Dr. Shamoon is a certified clinician in laser periodontal therapy (LANAP), minimally invasive soft tissue therapy (VISTA and tunneling technique), PRF (platelet-rich fibrin)—a concept that utilizes the patient’s own tissues for quicker healing post-surgical procedures, and several other techniques dedicated to implant therapy. Dr. Shamoon has completed over 200 hours of continuing education courses and is an advocate for continued learning throughout a clinician’s career.
In her free time, you can find Dr. Shamoon with her family, friends, and dog (Addison), marveling at the endless wonders of Washington State. Growing up in Chicago during the Michael Jordan era, you can also find Dr. Shamoon perfecting her jump shot!
